My parents are in their late 80s and live in an area of Colorado that only has Hughesnet as an internet provider. Their service is very eratic, expensive, and low performing. Right now they are having to wait for 3 weeks and pay over $100 to have the equipment replaced in order to have internet again. Communication with family and friends is of great importance to them as they rarely venture from their home that is several miles from town and at the top of a pass. I have signed up for Skylink and the deposit has been made, but there is indication that service won’t take place in their area until ’23. I looked on the availability map and their property is right on the edge of the ‘available now’ area. Is there any way of requesting expedited service as each day for them is precious and time is of an essence?
Starlink RV and buying a used Starlink dish are two good ways to skip the Starlink waitlist. Anyone can buy Starlink RV right now, although there are some downsides. I think it’s safe to say, though, that most people willing to go this route don’t have many internet options. Deprioritized service is better than nothing!
We want to stress again that you need to use these methods at your own risk. At any time, without warning, Starlink could change their policies. Starlink could prevent users from being able to update their service address. Any number of things could happen that would render this guide invalid. But at the same time, we know many of our readers have no internet options. Many people are desperate for Starlink, and this is one way to get it quickly.
